Story of a girl ( Alia Bhatt ) from a rich family residing in Delhi, who got
accidently kidnapped by a group of gangsters, a day before her marriage. Her
fear of bondage gradually turns in to a feeling of freedom. She feels more safe
with the main abductor Mahavir Bhati ( Randeep Hooda ), than with her family. Rest of the journey forms the movie 'Highway'.
'Highway' is a woman
oriented subject which reveals the fake face of present society. It is a
proclamation of the fact that, even in rich & well educated families, woman
is not safe. She is tortured in different ways inside her family itself. "How
she will get protection outside, when situation is more severe inside?" is the question that is asked by this movie. 'Highway' never tries to protest against what
had happened. It analyses the reason behind all these issues. It shows how men
and women are interconnected, how they can provide a feeling of safety and affection between each other.
Without adding any glamorous scenes, Director Imtiaz Ali had shown
100% loyalty to the subject. Sensible and intense love is conveyed to the
audience without adding any romantic songs or scenes. New Delhi is recently known for her protest against Delhi gang rape, which becomes the place for kidnap in this movie.
Background music is rarely used while sound design by Rasool Pookutty make scene's more enjoyable without music. Shimla valley scene is one which
sounds more natural and best without background score.
Sometimes it is felt that ‘Highway’ is riding through the
same old path as ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Jab we met’ did. Also the story line brings many
situations which are against logic. But still all these things found negligible
when we considered the positive sides of the movie.
FINAL WORD : A MUST WATCH !
